Teen Pregnancy Prevention (for teen audiences)
Features two experiential tools: The Empathy Belly and the Real Care Baby infant simulator. The realities of teen pregnancy and parenting are explored. Most effective in conjunction with an on-going health education program, but can stand-alone.
Baby Growing Nutrition Classes
Eating for two? Learn the importance of proper nutrition before, during, and after pregnancy. This session will also address the risks of drinking alcohol and/or taking drugs before and during pregnancy.
Prenatal Care
What it is, when do you go, where do you get it, and who is it for? Early prenatal care is important; find out why.
The Nine Months of Pregnancy
How can parents increase their chances of having a healthy baby? This session features the Empathy Belly - an experiential tool that allows the wearer to feel the discomforts of the ninth month of pregnancy. Discussion includes fetal development, maternal nutrition, healthcare, the father's role, prenatal and postpartum exercise, patients' rights and choices in childbirth. Community resource packet provided. (This workshop can be tailored to your audience's needs.)
Childbirth Education Series
A 3-session series designed for expectant teens (and their partners). Covers labor, delivery, relaxation techniques, what to expect at the hospital, and breastfeeding basics.
Breastfeeding 101
Workshop for expectant parents. Provides basic information and community resources.
Discipline in Not a Dirty Word
Learn effective methods of getting kids to listen without hitting and yelling.
Maternal-Infant Services Network is especially interested in reaching teens and medically underserved women, and will work with you agency or school to market the programs. Workshops are facilitated by MISN's health educators Liz Pickett, Jennifer Howard, or Stephanie Sosnowski, perinatal program manager.
